Honor Flight #14
On October 1,2014, the 14th Northeast Indiana Honor Flight of World War II veterans departed from Ft. Wayne in the early hours and returned later that same day. During their guided tour, these World War II veterans were able to visit the World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Women’s, Lincoln, Navy, and Iwo Jima Memorials along with Arlington National Cemetery. It was at Arlington National Cemetery they were able to witness the retiring of the colors and were also able to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns…a first for Honor Flight Northeast Indiana.
As one of the Corporate Level Sponsors from northeast Indiana, Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home is proud to have been involved in assisting this worthy organization from its inception. Brittney Gallmeyer, of Zwick & Jahn Funeral Homes, who served as a guardian for this trip, provided the pictures that are shown here and on the Zwick & Jahn Facebook page.
All costs for this trip for WWII veterans are covered…they pay nothing…they have given enough. World War II Veterans costs are funded by community donations from individuals, local businesses, foundations, and other groups who wish to be an important part of honoring these heroes. Each veteran is also escorted by Honor Flight volunteer “guardians,” who pay their own fees in order to honor veterans in a very personal way, escorting them and being there to help as needed throughout the day.
If you know of a World War II Veteran who would be interested in taking one of the Honor Flights, download a Veteran Application Form, or visit hfnei.org, or contact the funeral home.
