Viola Margot Avila Romero, 89, of Decatur, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at her residence.
She was born on October 7, 1935, in Crystal City, Texas to the late Luis and Maria (Rodriguez) Avila. Viola was united in marriage to Alejo Romero on August 26, 1951, in Crystal City, Texas and he preceded her in death.
She was a member of Decatur Church of Christ.
Viola was employed at General Electric and was also employed at Thunderbird now known as Formula Boats.
Viola enjoyed and loved spending time with her family very much. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, cookouts, music and singing, watching novellas, and dancing. Family cookouts often became festive events that included singing and dancing…which provided her with great pleasure as she loved watching the family interact. As Viola grew up, she knew the value of hard work and being committed to her job. This began in Texas and continued after she moved to Decatur.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Romero of Decatur, Indiana and Russell (Linda) Romero of Cecil, Ohio; daughter, Lori Rodriguez of Decatur, Indiana; brother, Everardo (Dora Elia) Avila of Del Rio, Texas; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Avila of Crystal City, Texas; brother-in-law, Alberto Benavides of Bryan, Texas; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Viola was preceded in death by sisters, Amalia (Jesus) Guerra, Oralia (Isabel) Aldapa Sr., Juanita (Armando) Mendoza, Irma Benavides, and Alicia (John) Huerra; and brothers, Eustolio (Helen) Avila, Carlos Avila, and Luis (Amelia) Avila.
A Graveside services for Viola will be held at Antioch (Beery) Cemetery on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
