Vernon W. Hedington

Vernon W. Hedington, 78, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Thursday evening, May 15, 2025, at his residence.

He was born on March 10, 1947 in Decatur, Indiana to Carl and Dorothy (Hoffman) Hedington. Vernon was united in marriage to Helen E. Ruhl on November 14, 1970 in Hoagland, Indiana, and she preceded him in death on July 26, 2018.

Vernon was a member of Spring Hill Church in Berne and Pleasant Mills United Methodist.

He was a lifelong farmer in Adams County, and worked at All American Homes in Decatur. Vernon was part owner of H & H Fencing and Twin Creek Farms.

Vernon and Helen enjoyed watching their grandchildren’s many activities. Vernon loved aviation and gardening. From a very early age, farming was his passion. It was instilled in him by his parents and along with a sense of individualism came a strong work ethic. Vernon was an avid Indiana Hoosiers Fan!

He is survived by two sons, Kerry W. (Sara) Hedington of Decatur, Indiana and Bradley L. (Lindsi) Hedington of Convoy, Ohio; five grandchildren, Klarissa Hedington, Desiree (Logan) Mosser, Miranda Hedington, Brayden Hedington, and Gracie Hedington; and one great-granddaughter, Halo Mosser.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Luther, Merlin, Leon (in infancy) Hedington; and a sister, Madeline Hedington.

Memorials may be given to Pleasant Mills United Methodist or Monroe Fire Department.

Arrangements are pending at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur.
