Thomas E. Myers, 79, of Decatur, Indiana formerly of New Haven, Indiana passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025, at his daughter’s residence.
He was born on April 27, 1946, in Decatur, Indiana to the late Melvin D. Myers and Anna (Liechty) Myers-Roop.
Thomas was united in marriage to Marjorie Melcher on April 27, 1988 in New Haven, Indiana. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2024.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era. He was honorably discharged following his service at the rank of Pvt E2, having served in the artillery of the 4th Division of the US Army.
He was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in New Haven, Indiana. He was also a member of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association and the American Legion Post #43.
Tom was a 1964 graduate of Geneva High School. Following high school and after his military service, he was employed with International Harvester for 20 years. It was during this time at Harvester that Tom was also a co-owner / operator of the Myers Dance Studio in Decatur. When International Harvester closed in Fort Wayne, he closed the dance studio and went back to school, attending IPFW where he earned his Associates degree in 1984. He then attended Worsham Mortuary School and graduated in 1985. After he completed the requirements for licensure in Indiana, he began his career as a licensed Funeral Director and embalmer and worked for many local funeral homes in the Fort Wayne area including E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, and Midwest Crematory and Funeral Home. After 38 years as a Funeral Director, he retired in February 2023.
Survivors include his twin daughters, Darlene (Roy) Zeitvogel of Decatur, Indiana and Charlene (Jimmian) Harmon of Fort Wayne, Indiana; three step-daughters, Janilyn (Leon) O’Shaughnessey of Monroeville, Indiana, Jill Renae (Doug) Bieberich of Hudson, Indiana, and Jacquelyn (Jeff) Knefelkamp of Monroeville, Indiana; step-son, Darin (Gwen) Scheumann of Ossian, Indiana; sister-in-law, Hanna Louise Melcher of Fort Wayne, Indiana;13 grandchildren, Shaun Smith, Heather Mackin, Mekhi Zeitvogel, Chaucey (Brandon) Weaver, Alex (Stephanie) O’Shaughnessey, Brady (Shayla) O’Shaughnessey, Amanda (Dennis) Payonk, Phillip (Lindsay) Bieberich, Mitchell (Jenny) Bieberich, Chris (Brianna) Knefelkamp, Sarah (Joe) Cesaretti, Jay Scheumann, and Joseph Scheumann; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents and spouse, Tom was preceded in death by his twin brother, True Myers; sister, Hope Neal-Hudson; stepfather, Kenneth Roop; grandson, Jason Myers Ridenour; and brother-in-law, Robert Melcher.
A funeral service for Tom will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the Boundless Church of the Nazarene located at 6555 North Piqua Road Decatur, Indiana with Pastor David Myers, Tom’s nephew and Pastor Abby Schnepp officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Emanuel Lutheran-New Haven, Indiana. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #43 at the church.
Friends and family are invited to share memories of Tom beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church and then again following the service at a meal being held at the church.
Preferred memorials can be given to Lighthouse Church in Monroe or Boundless Church of the Nazarene, Decatur.
