Suzi K. Scherer

December 19, 1952 — April 13, 2026

Susan “Suzi” K. Scherer, 73, of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, following an extended illness.

Suzi was born on December 19, 1952, in Decatur, Indiana, to the late Victor A. and Patricia A. “Pat” (Meyer) Braun.

On August 15, 1982, she was united in marriage to Keith Scherer in Michigan. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2026.

Suzi was born and baptized into the Catholic Church and was a longtime member at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. As a young woman, she graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in Decatur before also graduating from Bellmont High School in 1971. Following her marriage to Keith, she became a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling where she and her family were members.

Suzi was a familiar and friendly face at Belmont Liquor Store in Decatur for many years. After that chapter of her life, she worked alongside several partners in a self-employed cleaning business. Above all, Suzi considered her greatest accomplishment to be her role as “mom.” Her children fondly remember her as their “stay-at-home drama coordinator,” a title that reflected both her humor and her deep involvement in their lives.

A woman of remarkable creativity, Suzi expressed herself through a wide variety of crafts, including painting, candle making, jewelry making, crocheting, and creating oil lamp lights. She cherished time spent with her sisters. A particularly memorable time for them was spending the day at the Stutz Center in Indianapolis where they would make canvas painting creations. Her children’s various sporting activities, and the laundry that came with it, allowed her to stay connected with them as they matured in life. This transitioned into chasing her grandchildren (to stay young at heart) with their various activities. An avid animal lover, Suzi adored her beloved pets, Bud and Steve, who were treasured members of her household. She and Keith also shared a tradition of attending the Kentucky Derby each year, enjoying the excitement and celebration together. Music was always playing in the house beginning with 45’s and ending with CD’s. Her tastes were wide-ranging and included artists such as The Beatles, Kenny G., Yanni, Josh Groban, Phil Collins, Annie Lennox, Tracy Chapman, and George Benson.

Survivors include daughter, Patti Scherer of Bluffton, Indiana, son, Zach (Lindsey) Scherer of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Jennifer (Dustin) Mitchel of Decatur, Indiana; five sisters, Vickie (Tom) Heimann, Jane (Dick) Beard, Janett Marra, Joy “George” (Donn) Dunno and Kim (Rick) Black; and six grandchildren, Londyn Mitchel, Remington Mitchel, Oaklynn Mitchel, Ryder Massoth, Sienna Scherer, and Weston Scherer.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling, with Pastor Leonard Tanksley officiating. Private family burial will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Fuelling at a later date.

Family and friends will be received from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Homes in Decatur, and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Preferred memorials may be given to PAWS of Adams County.
