Steven M. Hoeppner, 72, of Berne, Indiana, passed away peacefully Monday morning, June 30, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on October 5, 1952, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Don and Gladys (Bosselman) Hoeppner. Steve was united in marriage to Sally Crabill on November 5, 1983.
Steve graduated from Woodlan High School in 1971. He received a business degree from Indiana University and an MBA from Ball State University. He had a 35+ year career performing market research for multiple companies. He attended First Missionary Church in Berne for more than 20 years.
Steve was an avid sports fan and spent most of his life playing, coaching, or watching sports. He had a passion for exercising and running, and he competed in many marathons. His favorite races included the Boston and Columbus marathons. Steve enjoyed spending time at the Wellness Pavilion, where he would exercise, talk with others, or have a cup of coffee. His greatest joy came from being with his family, and specifically his grandchildren. He loved to try to make others laugh by telling jokes or stories.
Steve is survived by his wife, Sally of Berne, Indiana; two sons, Lee (Rachel) of Fishers, Indiana, and Scott (Kelsey) of Bluffton, Indiana; four grandchildren, Audrey, Camden, Micah, and Selah; two sisters, Connie (Rick) Smith and Christine (Todd) Klopfenstein; one brother, Matt Hoeppner; one brother-in-law, Gary Hammond, and many nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Cheryl Hammond.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025, at First Missionary Church in Berne, Indiana, with Pastor Rick Schwartz officiating. Burial will follow at M.R.E. Cemetery in Berne.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at First Missionary Church, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Preferred memorials can be given to First Missionary Church.
