Stephen A. “Steve” Bickel, 58, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away Saturday afternoon, April 12, 2025, at his residence following an unexpected medical event.
He was born on November 17, 1966, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to the late James A. and Deanna Marlene (Marbaugh) Bickel. Steve was united in marriage to Tammy S. Bultemeyer on August 18, 1990, at Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim in Decatur, Indiana.
Steve was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was a high school graduate of Bishop Luers High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Professionally, Steve was the Facility and Distribution Coordinator for Star Financial Bank in Fort Wayne for over ten years.
Steve was known for his deep love for sports, particularly his devotion to Notre Dame athletics. For over 18 years, Steve dedicated his time and energy to being a baseball coach for Bishop Luers High School, influencing the lives of countless young athletes. He was also passionate about the Special Olympics in honor of his precious Goddaughter, Megan Miller. Steve enjoyed spending time outdoors; especially, fishing. In his free time, you could find him tinkering around home on different projects and working in the yard.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy Bickel of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son, Jacob (Kristin) Bickel of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son, Joshua (Mackenzie Timbrook) Bickel of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Christina (James Carter) Miller of Woodburn, Indiana; sister, Theresa Bickel of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Mary Bickel of Fort Wayne, Indiana; brother, Michael (Karen) Bickel of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Bickel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Haven, Indiana, with Father Nathan Maskal officiating. Burial will follow at the Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Preferred memorials can be given to East Allen County Special Olympics or the Allen County Sheriff's Department Canine Unit.
