Sheila Rose Harrington

Sheila Rose Harrington, 79, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away at 9:36 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Lutheran Hospital.

She was born on April 3, 1946, in Fort Wayne, Sheila was the daughter of the late Carl and Dorothy (Murphy) Gromeaux. She graduated from Monroeville High School in 1962 and continued her education at International Business College for two years.

On October 11, 1975, Sheila was united in marriage to James M. Harrington, who preceded her in death on September 25, 2016.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel.

She was employed as a Postal Clerk for the US Postal Service in Fort Wayne. She also touched many lives as a longtime waitress at the 9 Mile Restaurant near Fort Wayne.

Sheila found joy in simple pleasures, including cross-stitching and watching game shows.

Survivors include her son, Ryann Harrington of Wabash, Indiana; daughter, Tarah Altevogt of Surprise, Arizona; son, Brett (Kimberly) Harrington of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Andrea (Dale) Gromeaux-Schnaith of Indianapolis, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Hannah Worman, Whitney Mon, Paislee Harrington, Gabriel Harrington, Grace Harrington, Charlotte Harrington, Blake Altevogt, and Aiden Altevogt; and five great-grandchildren, Luca Mon, Sahray Mon, Tucker Worman, Emma Worman, and Chosen Mon.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents and husband. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel, with Father William Kummer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Hessen Cassel.

Family and friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville and from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church, prior to the Mass.

The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials can be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church – Hessen Cassel.
