Sharon Rose Schaefer

Sharon Rose Schaefer, 85, of Decatur, Indiana took the Lord’s hand peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at home, surrounded by the love of her family.

Sharon was born on July 19, 1941 in Monroeville, Indiana and grew into a resilient, spirited woman with a pure heart and a deep love for her family. Her family was truly her whole world and the life she built grew into a remarkable legacy spanning five generations.

She was the proud mother of seven children: Phillip (Pam) Schaefer, Penny Casson, Vicky Franklin, Allen (Pompy) Schaefer, Onnie (Keith) Smeal, Carol Schaefer, and Dannie Schaefer, all of Decatur, Indiana. Her greatest joy continued through her 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild on the way.

Sharon found happiness in the people and little things she loved most — being surrounded by family, listening to Charley Pride, and she loved anything that sparkled with excessive glitter.

Her absence will leave an immeasurable space in the family she held together, but her love will continue through every generation that follows. Pieces of Sharon will live on in family traditions, familiar stories, shared laughter, and the love her children and grandchildren pass on to their own families.

What began with one woman became generations. She was the heart of the family with a love that reached five generations which does not end with goodbye — it became a legacy.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Eddie Knefelkamp and three sisters, Carol Rhymer, Linda Barrett, and Mary Elzey.

In according to Sharon’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. A private family gathering will be held.

Memorials can be given through the funeral home to PAWS of Adams County or Lennoxs Legacy Rescue.
