Ronald A. “Ron” Sorg, 87, of Hoagland, Indiana passed away late Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at his residence.
Ron was born on December 25, 1938 in Hoagland, Indiana to Alphonse and Virginia (Minnich) Sorg. He was united in marriage to Carole A. Scare on February 17, 1962 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Yoder, Indiana.
He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel in Fort Wayne where he served on the Church Cemetery Committee, previously ushered, mowed the grounds at church and assisted with maintenance.
Ron was a 1956 graduate of Hoagland High School and was a lifelong farmer.
He enjoyed collecting antique IH tractors. He was a frequent visitor at Maumee Valley Steam and Tractor shows and The Tri State Gas Engine and Tractor Show held annually in Portland. He was very proud of his farming heritage. The family farm qualified as a Hoosier Homestead and has been in the family for just short of 200 years - he always joked that he was outstanding in his field.
He had a quick wit and a wonderfully awful sense of humor, always ready with a "bad dad joke" that made everyone groan, but secretly smile. And he loved to sing. Really, really badly. He could turn any quiet moment into an impromptu, off-key concert, usually belting out some classic while trying to fix a tractor or combine. No one told him he needed to tractor-ise more on his singing. He just kept on going.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carole A. Sorg of Hoagland, Indiana; two sons, Anthony R. (Evelyn) Sorg of Monroeville, Indiana and Allan P. Sorg of Hoagland, Indiana; three daughters, Lori A. (Fritz) Sirk of Hoagland, Indiana, Dawn M. (Leo) Faurote of Decatur, Indiana, and Tammy R. (Andy) Speith of Monroeville, Indiana; brother, Russell (Sharon) Sorg of Yoder, Indiana; brother-in-law, Ed Adams of Woodstock, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Ronald “Bubba” Sorg; granddaughter, Heather Sorg Barton; great-granddaughter, Tatiana Speith; brother, William Sorg in infancy; and six sisters, Bernadette Adams, Irene Shelburne, Marguerite Meyers, Jeanette Klingenberger, Victoria Vachon, and Helene Spieth.
