Ronald L. Selking, 83, of Fort Wayne, Indiana and a former longtime resident of Decatur, Indiana passed away late Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Residence at Coffee Creek in Chesterton, Indiana.
Ron was born on November 28, 1942 in Decatur, Indiana to Wilber and Martha (Franke) Selking. On September 11, 1965, Ron was united in marriage to Carol A. Pipes at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble and she preceded him in death on January 13, 2014.
He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble where he sang in the choir and held various offices in the church throughout his time there. He was also a member of the Lions Club in Decatur, Indiana.
A dedicated worker with a strong connection to his community, Ron spent many years as a self-employed farmer. He also brought his strong work ethic to International Harvester in Fort Wayne, where he was a devoted employee until the plant's closing. Following his time there, he transitioned into real estate, becoming a familiar and trusted face as a longtime realtor for Ideal Realty in Decatur.
His greatest joy was helping others; this ran a close second to farming.
Ron is survived by a son, Darrin L. (Dr. Wendy) Selking of Valparaiso, Indiana; daughter, Angela R. Selking of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandchildren, Wes (Chloe) Selking and Travis (Julia) Selking; great-grandchild, Theo Selking; brother, Kenneth (Pendy) Selking of Decatur, Indiana; and sister, Barbara Oliver of Decatur, Indiana.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble with Rev. Dr. Daniel Brege officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Preble. Military graveside honor will be rendered by the United States Air Force in conjunction with the American Legion Post #43 Color Guard.
Family and friends will be received from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday at the church.
Memorials can be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble.
