Phyllis M. Van Horn, 79, of Monroeville passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She was born on December 28, 1945, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to the late Adrian and Lucille (Voirol) Roussey. Phyllis was united in marriage to Dennis Van Horn on September 10, 1966, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Besancon and he survives following 59 years of marriage. They met while in first grade at St. Louis Academy grade school and developed a bond that continued until her death.
Phyllis was an active member of St. Louis Catholic Church – Besancon where she faithfully served the church by volunteering in various capacities. She also was very active in supporting the American Legion Post #420 Auxiliary in Monroeville.
Phyllis was a cook for many years, serving at Bishop Luers High School, IPFW, and Adams – Heritage Nursing Home in Monroeville. But she took the most pride in being known as the homemaker who made the family farm run.
She valued the time spent attending the various events that her grandchildren participated.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis Van Horn of Monroeville, Indiana; two sons, Brent (Jennie) Van Horn and Kurt (Kelly) Van Horn both of Monroeville, Indiana; daughter, Vickie (Deacon Rob) Lortie of Monroeville, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Martin Lortie, Jacob Van Horn, Jarrett (Jordan) Lortie, Noah Van Horn, Taryn Van Horn, Jessica (Jordan) Delagrange, Owen Van Horn, Landry Van Horn; and four great- grandchildren and one more on the way.
Phyllis was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia (Jim) Roy and Mary (Eugene) Wyss; and two brothers; Tom (Agatha) Roussey and Larry (Carolyn) Roussey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at St. Louis Catholic Church Besancon with Father Steve Colchin officiating. Burial will be held at St. Louis Besancon Catholic Church, New Haven.
Family and friends will be received from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Homes, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana and from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church prior to Mass.
The Holy Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials can be given to Masses, St. Louis Academy, or Monroeville EMS.
