Phyllis H Burry, 99, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur, Indiana.
Phyllis was born on November 29, 1926, in Adams County, Indiana, to the late Sam and Mabel (Burkett) Yoder.
Phyllis was united in marriage to Luther Burry on March 24, 1946 in Ft Wayne, Indiana; he preceded her in death in 2005.
Phyllis was a member of the Cross Community Church in Berne where she actively participated in the church choir. Being community minded, Phyllis was also part of the Berne Garden Club, and the American Legion Post 468 Auxiliary, Berne, Indiana.
Phyllis worked as a meat cutter at Food Town Grocery store in Berne. She worked at CTS then left there to get her Realtors License. Taking advantage of her new license, Phyllis then began a career as the longtime secretary and sales clerk for Phil’s Auction, beginning her tenure in 1972.
Phyllis greatly enjoyed her flower garden. Her children remember her decorating her home with her own beautiful flowers every year. She was also a very accomplished seamstress, making her own clothing for many years and helping others with their clothing needs. Her enjoyment of music and singing was not limited to church; she also shared her vocal talents by singing in the Berne Community Chorus for many years.
Traveling the Upper Midwest was a big deal for her because she really loved the region's old landmarks and lake history. She especially enjoyed visiting covered bridges, seeing them as pieces of history you could actually walk through. On her trips, she always looked for bridges in different states, from the huge, impressive ones to the smaller, prettier ones in old towns.
Her love for history and scenery also included lighthouses, especially the ones on the Great Lakes. She often visited the old stations along the huge shorelines, learning about the region's shipping history. She liked how each lighthouse was different, maybe with a cool color or a challenging location.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tracy Blom; a great grandson, Sage Blom; a step great grandson, Sam Win; a sister, Thelma Yoder; three brothers, Roger Yoder, Marion Yoder, and Ronald “Runt” Yoder.
She is survived by her son, Lynn (Sally) Burry of Geneva, Indiana; daughter, Sandra Myers of Decatur, Indiana; son Kevin (Susie) Burry of Decatur Indiana; grandchildren, Benjamin Burry , Christine Agler, Karen (Andrew) O’Hagen, Karl Myers; step grandchildren, Joel (Leanne) Greve, Jeanette (Ted) Westafer, Chad Fisher; great grandchildren, Caitlyn Stankey, Darren Myers, Wednesday Sargent, Caitlyn (Nick) Henry, Kiera Myers, Alexander Myers; step great grandchildren, Jack Win, Sidney Win, Haleigh Greve, Leaera Fisher, Lindsey Fisher; great-great grandchild, Jude Stankey: step great-great grandchild, Layton Fisher; and several nieces and nephews.
