Miriam I. Sprunger

Miriam I. Sprunger, 96, of Berne, Indiana, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born in Berne on December 4, 1928, to the late Emil and Matilda (Hirschy) Sprunger.

Miriam graduated from Geneva High School, followed by Fort Wayne Bible College and Indiana University. Her passion for teaching led her to a fulfilling 31-year career in elementary education with the Fort Wayne Teachers Association. Miriam's dedication to her students extended internationally when she taught at the Christian Academy in Tokyo, Japan, for two years from 1978 to 1980.

A woman of deep faith, Miriam was a member of First Missionary Church in Berne and a former member of Brookside Church in Fort Wayne. After retiring, she continued to give back by volunteering for 14 years at Parkview Hospital and later at Swiss Village. She was known for her cheerful spirit and her ability to make friends wherever she went. In her free time, she enjoyed completing puzzles and coloring.

She is survived by her several nieces and nephews.

Miriam was preceded in death by her seven brothers, Leroy, Norman, Eli, Tillman, Melvin, Clifford, and Raymond Sprunger; and four sisters, Inez Patterson, Minnie Basinger, Edith Minger, and Esther Biberstein.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the First Missionary Church in Berne, with Pastors Dathen Foust and Mike Wertenberger officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Miriam will be laid to rest at MRE Cemetery in Berne.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Missionary Church - Missions.
