Max E. Clem, 88, of Hoagland, IN, passed away peacefully Friday, May 16, 2025.
He was born August 9, 1936, to the late Frank and Mary (Van Buskirk) Clem. On July 31, 1971, Max married Dianne (Shoudel) Clem, the beginning of more than 53 happy years together.
A graduate of Monroeville High School and International Business College, he served in the U.S. Army at Fort Knox, KY, from 1959 to 1961. After working at Clem Hardware, Schlatter Hardware, and Acme Printing, he retired in 2006.
Many knew Max as a friend and neighbor in Monroeville, IN, where he grew up and called home for more than 70 years before moving to Hoagland. A lifelong member of the Monroeville United Methodist Church, he directed the church choir and Monroeville Community Choir for four decades. Max was a member of the Monroeville Lions Club and Four Presidents Corners Historical Society.
Surviving are his wife, Dianne; children, Michael (Jill) Clem of Grabill and Suzanne Clem of Muncie; grandchildren, Katie, Jonathan, Anna, and Maria Clem; and sister, Myra (Pat) Anderson of New Haven. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by stepfather Ferd Freimuth and sister Marsha Mack.
A celebration of Max’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, in Monroeville. Friends and family will be received from 4-8 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2025 and one hour prior to the service Saturday.
Memorials may be made on his behalf to Monroeville United Methodist Church or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
