Mary S. Thompson, 84, of Decatur, Indiana passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur, Indiana.
She was born on October 7, 1941, in Flatwood, Tennessee to the late John and Tennie (Ganbrell) Caperton.
Mary worked at production factories including Dolco Packaging in Decatur. She finished her career at UTA in Berne where she retired.
Mary’s passion was spending time in the kitchen where she made the most delicious meals. She was always wanting to cook for someone and anyone that ate her food, truly enjoyed it. Her greatest joys were her grandkids. She lived to spoil them and would attend any sporting event she could. She is going to be greatly missed.
Survivors include two daughters, Cindy (James Sweat) Jackson and Brenda Thieme both of Decatur, Indiana; son, Martin “Marty” (Crystal Carpenter) Thompson of Convoy, Ohio; 19 Grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Evelyn Gobble of Tennessee and Helen Clark of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Mary was preceded in death by two sons, Eugene Thompson and Monte “Bud” Thompson; two daughters, April Thompson and Terry Rennels; and 13 brothers and sisters.
Per Mary’s request, there will be no viewing or service. There will be a celebration of life for family and friends at a later date.
Preferred memorials are to the family - Checks payable to Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home for expenses and be mailed to 520 N. 2nd St. Decatur, Indiana.
