Marilyn Grace Roop, 93, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away Saturday morning, May 23, 2026 at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur, Indiana.
She was born on June 7, 1932 in Decatur, Indiana to the late David H. and Berneta (Reynolds) Teeple.
Marilyn was united in marriage to James B. Roop on April 26, 1952, and he preceded her in death on January 27, 2012.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur, Indiana, and a previous member of St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Golden Gate, Florida.
Marilyn was employed as a bookkeeper at Rogers, Wood, Hill, Starman & Gustason in Naples, Florida, for over fifteen years until her retirement in 2004. She was also the previous owner, along with her husband, of Alpine Acres in Decatur.
Marilyn enjoyed reading, crocheting, and putting together and solving puzzles. Marilyn and Jim loved to camp, and traveled all over the United States with their four children. Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, and Spain were just some of the places that they had the opportunity to explore. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her furry friends.
Survivors include her son, Steve (Brenda) Roop of Naples, Florida; son, Rick (Cindy) Roop of Gravette, Arkansas; daughter, Trish (Marty) Fuelling of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Nancy (Rex) Evans of Decatur, Indiana; eleven grandchildren, Michelle Haverkate, Melanie Riveron, Risa Sidani, Cara Melson, Tami Nowlin, Meredith Fry, Stephanie Pruitt, Megan Kable, Kaitlin Fuelling, Ben Evans, and Brittany Magner; and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, James B. Roop, Marilyn was preceded in death by her three brothers, Richard, Raymond, and Donald “Pat” Teeple; and her two sisters, Joyce Ensign and Catherine Spiegel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Decatur, with Monsignor William Schooler and Father Jake Runyon officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Decatur.
Family and friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 in the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church Parish Hall, Decatur, and one hour prior to the Mass on Wednesday also at the church.
The Holy Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at the church.
Preferred memorials may be given to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur, Indiana or The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
