Maria Benigna Morales Figueroa

Maria Benigna Morales Figueroa, 94, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, June 16, 2026, at Stillwater Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.

Maria was born on November 9, 1931, in Villanueva, Honduras, Central America, to the late Benedicto Morales and Paula Rivas. She was united in marriage to Manuel Antonio Figueroa.

A woman of deep faith, she was a dedicated member of Cross Community Church in Berne. Throughout her life, she touched many lives through her work in a variety of roles, including serving as an elementary school teacher, a Sunday school teacher, and a librarian in Honduras, before later working at EP Graphics in Berne. Outside of her professional life, she was a creative spirit who found immense joy in staying active and working with her hands. Whether she was crocheting, reading, gardening, walking, or working on various other crafts, she loved sharing her unique talents with her beloved family and friends. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Antonio Figueroa of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son, David Antonio (Noemi) Figueroa of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; daughter, Ana Luisa (Duane) Herman of Fort Wayne, Indiana; brother, Jose Morales of Honduras; five grandchildren, Sidney (Wendy) Figueroa, Vanessa (Nathaniel) Lengerich, Macie (Andrew) Scheribel, Andrei Figueroa, and Linney (Daniel) Rosales; and eight great-grandchildren, Ethan Figueroa, Nolan Figueroa, Samuel Lengerich, Lucas Lengerich, Josephine Lengerich, Wesley Scheribel, Reagan Scheribel, and Emery Scheribel.

Maria was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Gumercindo, Luisa, Graciela, Pilar, Virginia de la Cruz, and Florinda.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2026, at Cross Community Church in Berne, Indiana with Pastor Brad Buckley officiating. Burial will follow at M.R.E. Cemetery in Berne.

Family and friends will be received from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Friday prior to the service at the church.

Memorials can be given to Cross Community Church.
