Marguerite G. “Margaret” Rice

Marguerite G. “Margaret” Rice, 99, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Thursday afternoon, June 26, 2025, at Adams Woodcrest.

She was born on March 27, 1926 in Adams County, Indiana to Charles C. and Bertha (Bublitz) Mailand. She was united in marriage to Richard C. Rice on June 6, 1953, and he preceded her in death on January 5, 2014.

Margaret was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen, where she served the Lord on the Ladies Guild and the Ladies Aid.

After high school graduation she began her working career at Lincoln Life in Fort Wayne, as a secretary. Following her marriage to Dick, she was blessed with the birth of four children which enabled her to faithfully serve her family as a homemaker.

Margaret enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, and embroidery. She loved to play golf with Dick and in her ladies golfing league. Rumor has it she might of beat Dick a time or two in golf!

She is survived by daughter, Cynthia L. (Ronnie) Holt of Decatur, Indiana; son, Duane A. (Jeanne) Rice of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Janine K. Hicks of Decatur Indiana; eight grandchildren, Jesse L. (Kristen) Holt, Casey C. (Maybelle) Holt, Jenny A. (Justin) Beaulieu, Jamie L. (Thomas) Salima, Kelly Rice, Nolan (Sarah) Rice, Erin Hoeppner, and Cody Hoeppner; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sheila R. Hoeppner and two brothers, Herbert Mailand and Fredrick Mailand.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen with Pastor Peter Brock and Pastor Berett Steffen officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Bingen.

Family and friends will be received from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen.
