Lowell J. Scheumann, 66, of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at his residence.
He was born on November 20, 1959, in Decatur, Indiana, to the late Alfred and Leonora (Rebber) Scheumann.
Lowell was united in marriage to Doris Oetting on August 15, 1987, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. Doris preceded him in death on April 8, 2018. During the time when Doris’s health was failing, Lowell was a faithful and devoted caregiver to his wife, providing her with many years of loving care.
Lowell was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock, where he was currently serving on the Cemetery Committee and had previously served as a trustee. During his childhood and younger years, he was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen. He was also a former member of the Heritage Lions Club in Hoagland.
A 1978 graduate of Heritage High School, Lowell was a self-employed farmer and also worked part-time at Central States Grain in New Haven.
In their younger years, Lowell and Doris enjoyed water skiing and snow skiing together. He was a devoted NASCAR fan for many years. He was one to appreciate a good deal. He especially enjoyed attending free community concerts throughout the area, which was a good deal. Over the years, Lowell became a familiar and steady presence on the square dance circuit at the Hoagland Hayloft, Quixote Hills (The Eden), and St. Louis Besancon. Above all, Lowell treasured the time he spent with his family, especially his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include two brothers, Keith (Debbie) Scheumann of Woodburn, Indiana and Alan (Tammy) Scheumann of Decatur, Indiana; three sisters, Kathy (Bob) Boling of Ossian, Indiana, Peggy (Chris) Kofer of Strafford, New Hampshire, and Kelly (Len) Winebrenner of Hamilton, Indiana; 17 nieces and nephews; and 28 great-nieces and nephews. He also maintained a continued relationship with Doris’ three nieces and one nephew.
Lowell was preceded in death by his sister, Beth Rorick in 2006; two nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services for Lowell will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock, 12912 Franke Road, Monroeville, Indiana, with Pastor Douglas Christian officiating. Interment will follow at IOOF Cemetery in New Haven, Indiana.
Family and friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, and for one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Preferred memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock.
