Loren R. Grabner, 90, of Monroeville, Indiana passed away on Tuesday morning, July 22, 2025, at Adams Heritage.
He was born on June 26, 1935 in Allen County, Indiana to Grover C. and Leona G. (Leonard) Grabner. On March 9, 1957, Loren was united in marriage to Colleen C. Etzler at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Convoy, Ohio.
Loren was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock where he had held several offices. He served on the Community Board of the Village of Heritage and the Advisory Board for Monroe Township. Loren was actively involved with the Monroeville Lion’s Club and served as an officer of the Monroeville High School Alumni Association.
He was a graduate of Monroeville High School and received his BS and MS in education from Ball State University and was the manager of the men’s basketball team at Ball State. Loren started his career as the principal of Jackson Township School and then was a teacher at Monroeville High School where he served as the athletic director and basketball coach, as well as the track and cross-country coach. Following his time at Monroeville High School, he taught business classes at Heritage High School where he continued in coaching multiple sports as well as serving as the driver’s ed instructor and student council advisor. He retired from teaching in 1993 with 37 years in education. Loren loved teaching and enjoyed it so much that he never felt like it was work. He culminated his coaching career with coaching his grandson’s 4th grade basketball team at St. John – Emmanuel Lutheran School. After his retirement from teaching, Loren worked for several years at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Homes. His calm demeanor set people at ease and he was a welcoming face when people entered the funeral home. Loren was also proud to say that he worked over eight decades in farming with his brother, Lindy.
Loren’s family was so important to him. He spent many hours watching his kids and grandkids in their sporting activities and traveled all over to attend those events.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen Grabner of Monroeville, Indiana; daughter, Lynette (Mark) Kaufman of Zionsville, Indiana; son, Roger (Nancy) Grabner of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Gayle (Chuck) Ross of Lebanon, Indiana; daughter, Laurie (John) Teichman of Monroeville, Indiana; sister, Sharon (Dick) Darras of Monroeville, Indiana; and five grandchildren, Nathan Grabner, Carly Grabner, DMV, Abbey Grabner, Hunter Teichman, and Logan Teichman.
In addition to his parents, Loren was preceded in death by two sisters, Audrey Swanson and Eileen Sloan; and five brothers, Arnold, Donald, Charles, Dale & Lindy Grabner.
