Leah L. Girod

Leah L. Girod, 91, of Berne, Indiana, passed away Monday afternoon, August 31, 2026, surrounded by her family at her residence.

She was born on April 22, 1935, in Geneva, Indiana, to the late Amos and Leah (Schwartz) Graber. Leah married Emanuel S. Girod on April 22, 1954, and he preceded her in death on November 18, 2021.

Leah was a member of the Old Order Amish.

She faithfully served her family as a homemaker.

Leah is survived by five sons, Sam L. (Ernestine) Girod of Syracuse, Indiana; Emanuel L. (Emma E.) Girod of New Haven, Indiana, Ernest L. (Maryann E.) Girod of Monroe, Indiana, Simon L. (Judy M.) Girod of Berne, Indiana, and Enos L. (Catherine K.) Girod of Monroe, Indiana; six daughters, Leah L. (Joe M.) Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana, Emma L. Byler of Salem, Indiana, Lovina L. (Alvin J.L.) Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana, Elizabeth L. (Marvin N.S.) Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana, Martha L. (David A.) Schmidt of Monroe, Indiana, and Saloma L. (Levi K.) Wickey of Monroe, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Marie F. Girod of Harlan, Indiana; two sisters, Emma Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana, and Saloma (Elmer K.) Hilty of Geneva, Indiana; three sisters-in-law, Lavina L. Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana, Rachel Girod of Holmes County, Ohio, and Clara Girod of Salem, Indiana; 130 grandchildren, 283 great-grandchildren, and 28 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by three sons, Amos L. Girod, David L. Girod, and John L. Girod; daughter, Lydia L. Girod; son-in-law, Andy Byler; three grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Lydia Eicher, Elizabeth Coblentz, Lavina Swartzentruber, Barbara Schwartz, and Christ Graber.

A funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, September, 4, 2026, at the Simon L. Girod Residence, 4091 South 150 East Berne, Indiana, with Bishop Noah Wickey officiating. Burial will follow at Schwartz Cemetery in Berne, Indiana.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2026, and from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the Simon L. Girod Residence.
