June Harkless, 88, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 19, 2026, at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur.

June was born on December 13, 1937, in Dearborn, Michigan, to the late Charles and Mabel (Smith) Smith. She was united in marriage to David R. Harkless on November 21, 1964, in Michigan.

June was a longtime member of Cornerstone Community Church in Decatur, where she served in the children’s ministry, in the church ladies’ cake and noodle ministry, and on the Missions Board.

She was a graduate of Caro High School in Michigan and retired as a nurse’s aide at Adams Memorial Hospital in 2003, and was also a Home Health Aid until retirement.

She had a love and talent for crocheting, gardening, and flowers. Above all, her grandchildren were very important to her, and she enjoyed babysitting for all of them.

She is survived by her husband, David R. Harkless of Decatur, Indiana; son, Rodney (Maegon) Harkless of Berne, Indiana; daughter, Renee (Jason) Crates of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Ruth Ann (David) Stucky of Monroe, Indiana; sister, Nancy (Paul) Harkless of Monroe, Indiana; three sisters-in-law, Rinda Smith of Caro, Michigan, Lois Smith of Rensselaer, Indiana, and Dee Smith of Cass City, Michigan. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Laura (Marcus Love) Brown, Kayla (Trent) Sarasin, Nathan (Tiffany) Stucky, Clayton (Alexa) Harkless, Audrey (Brendan) Bohata, Brayden (Lidea Morningstar) Harkless, Nicole (Nathan) McFarland, Jenna (Hunter Lotter) Crates, and Morgan (Jordan Minich) Crates; and ten great-grandchildren, Aiden, Jace, Cameron, Oliver, James, Jonah, Hadley, Delilah, Azalea, and Mylah.

June was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Ashton Sarasin; sister, Phyllis Smith; and three brothers, David Smith, Wayne Smith, and Lowell Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Cornerstone Community Church in Decatur, Indiana, with Pastor Kenneth Hogg officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2026, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Preferred memorials are to Heart to Heart Hospice, Cornerstone Community Church, or Laurel Missions.
