Joan L. Thompson, 93, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Lutheran Life Villages in Fort Wayne.
She was born on April 10, 1932 in Adams County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Rudolph H. Fuelling and the late Ida W. (Bohnke) Fuelling.
Joan was united in marriage to the late Robert C. Thompson on April 25, 1954 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling in Decatur, Indiana and he preceded her in death.
She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, participating in the choir for 35 years. Joan was a member of the Women's Guild at Peace, as well as the Lutheran Home Women Auxiliary and LWML. She also volunteered in many different capacities at Peace Lutheran Church and Lutheran Homes for many years.
Joan began her working career at Sutton's Jewelry Store which lasted for five years. It was at this point she began to raise the children that she and Bob were blessed with. When her children were raised, she became involved with a craft business which continued for twenty years.
She was an avid gardener. Joan took great pride in maintaining her home and the areas around and inside her home.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Janalee S. (Stanley) Bieberich of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son, Jamie L. (Amy) Thompson of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son, Jerry L. (Angie) Thompson of Wolcottville, Indiana; sister, Cynthia (Dean) Wass of Monroeville, Indiana; sister-in-law, Charlotte Fuelling of Decatur, Indiana; six grandchildren: Dan (Jill) Bieberich, Jared (Jacqueline) Bieberich, Nicholas (Jenny) Bieberich, Carley Thompson, Samantha (Braxton) Powers, and Dr. Abigail (Quinn) Hanlon; eight great-grandchildren: Xavier Bieberich, Dominic Bieberich, Lucy Bieberich, Penelope Bieberich, Felix Bieberich, Lleyton Bieberich, Merigold Bieberich, and Henry Bieberich.
She is preceded in death by two sisters, Arlene (Kenneth) Niemeyer and Alice (Eugene) Bruick, and her brother, Delmore Fuelling.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2026 at Lutheran Life Villages Chapel with Pastor James Voorman and Pastor James Keller officiating. A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, February 9th at the Concordia Cemetery Gardens in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Family and friends will be received one hour prior to services at Lutheran Life Villages Chapel on Friday.
Preferred memorials to Peace Lutheran Church; Lutheran Life Villages - Chaplain program; or Worship Anew.
