Jerry A. Love Sr.

April 5, 1938 — October 29, 2025

Jerry A. Love Sr., age 87, of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at his residence.

He was born on April 5, 1938, in New Haven, Indiana, to the late Emmet C. Love and Emma C. (Stute) Love. Jerry was united in marriage to Barbara L. Lee on August 10, 1957, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven, Indiana, and she survives.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock, Indiana, where he faithfully served the Lord by holding various church offices including Trustee and Deacon, and was known as the general fix-it-man at church.

Jerry was a self-employed mechanic and the owner of Jerry Love Service from 1967 to 1987 in Townley, Indiana, where he developed a reputation for providing quality service at a fair price. His shop became known as the “hub” of the farming community. Following his retirement, he worked as a custodian at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock, Indiana, both at the church and the school, for an additional fifteen years until his second retirement in 2003. Retirement, however, did not slow Jerry down—he continued to volunteer his time at the church and school in various capacities until his health prevented him from doing so in 2025.

In his spare time, Jerry loved camping and building birdhouses. One year, he made a birdhouse for each of the staff members at Flatrock, each one designed uniquely. He was also very civic-minded, reflected in his role as the most outstanding mayor the town of Townley, Indiana, had ever known—he was never defeated for the title and prestige of that office.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara L. Love of Monroeville, Indiana; two sons, Jerry A. Love Jr. and Dale L. Love both of Monroeville, Indiana; four grandchildren, Jerry A. Love III, John Love, Zachary Love, and Caroline Seifert; and six great-grandchildren, Sophia Love, Jerry A. Love IV, Julie Love, Lincoln Love, Hudson Seifert, and Desmond Seifert.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Walter Love, Emmet Love Jr., Grover Love, Richard Love, Robert Love, and Roger Love; and five sisters, Helen Kees, Annabelle Martin Wells, Wilma Hyser-Clark, Patricia Castle, and Gloria Lothamer.
