James D. McBride

James D. McBride, 65, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2026, where he was working following a heart attack while mowing.

He was born on December 12, 1960 in Decatur, Indiana, to the late Charles and Alice (Bebout) McBride.

Jim was a 1979 Graduate of Bellmont High School. He retired from Baker & Schultz following 9 years of employment. Following his time at Baker & Schultz, he devoted his life to caring for his parents until their deaths. He also discovered the joy of being a self-employed lawn care provider for many people in the Decatur area.

Jim loved music and sports. He played the electric guitar in several local bands over the years. This was a skill and gift as he literally picked up the guitar and could play it by ear. He was also quietly satisfied with the recent return of the LP records because he still had his collection from his high school years. He followed the Chicago Cubs, IU Basketball, and Chicago Bears.

Survivors include his brother, Dan McBride of Decatur, Indiana; niece, Jennifer Mendez of Decatur, Indiana; nephew, Christopher McBride of Decatur, Indiana; nephew, John (Nikki) McBride of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and nephew, Tom DeMartino of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Friends and family are invited to share in Jim’s life from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. The family asks that casual attire be worn along with favorite sports teams if possible.

Burial will be at Decatur Cemetery at a later date.

Preferred memorials may be given to ACCF, Angel Fund – Heart.
