Helen Bea Cook, 87, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away peacefully Monday evening, September 15, 2025, at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur, Indiana.
She was born on May 5, 1938, to the late Gordon and Edna (Bollinger) Burkhart in Blue Creek Township in Adams County, Indiana. Helen lived a full life, sharing her love of Jesus everywhere she went. She was known for her kindness, her devotion to people, and her steadfast faith.
Helen was employed at Decatur Industries for 30-plus years and also worked at Golden Meadows and Shaffer Glove Factory. In retirement, Helen volunteered at the Gift Shop at Adams Memorial Hospital and St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop.
She was a longtime member at Mt. Zion United Brethren Church, Bobo. Helen enjoyed talking with people, going to auctions, and spending time with her family. She loved cheering on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their sports, and she fondly remembered her Pleasant Mills School basketball team and the lifelong friends she made there. She enjoyed watching basketball and Colts football, sitting on her front porch, and of course, a good bowl of ice cream. Above all, Helen cherished quiet moments spent reading her Bible, watching her favorite pastors on TV, and growing in her faith.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Darlene (Russell) Noel of Indianapolis, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Becky Cook of Decatur, Indiana; four grandchildren, Mandy (Tony) Heiser, Katie (Joe) Adams, Robert (Patrycja) Tonner, and Andrea (Mason) Yount; and five great-grandchildren, Kevin Cook, Gabby Heiser, Matthew Heiser, Lidia Tonner, and Nathan Tonner; and close friend, Leon Tonner.
She was preceded in death by her son, Russell Cook; three brothers, Robert Burkhart, Larry Burkhart, and twin brother, Howard Burkhart; two sisters, Dorothy Hanni and Rosella Steffen; and one half-brother, Harry Bollinger.
A funeral service for Helen will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana, with Pastor Ernie Suman officiating. Burial will follow at Ray Cemetery in Monroe, Indiana.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials can be made to Mt. Zion United Brethren Church, Bobo.
Above all, Helen will be remembered for her deep love of people and her unwavering love for Jesus, who has now welcomed her safely home.
