Harriet Sue Burkhart, 76, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Monday afternoon, February 16, 2026, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Harriet was born on August 2, 1949 in Decatur, Indiana to Louis Henry and Alice Lucille (Schaefer) Bercot.
She married Roger Burkhart on March 1, 1986 and he preceded her in death on April 17, 2013. On June 26, 2022, she was united in marriage to Dan Robert DeLong at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Decatur.
Harriet was a member of the Salem Community Church in Monroe, Indiana where she served as the song leader for many years.
She retired from CTS in Berne with over 30 years of service. Following her retirement from CTS, she worked at CVS Pharmacy in Bluffton.
Harriet was an avid Indiana University fan and was well known for making cheesecakes. She loved spending time with family, especially attending the many activities of her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her husband, Dan DeLong of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Carol McCulloch of Fort Wayne, Indiana; brother, Chester (Penny) Bercot of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Nancy Fark of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Sharon (Mel) Burkhart of Decatur, Indiana; three step-sons, Aaron DeLong of Key West, Florida, Clayton (fiancé, Keely Frank) DeLong of Laotto, Indiana; and Evan (Kelly) DeLong of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and step-daughter, Jordan Ernst of Decatur, Indiana. Also surviving are nieces & nephews, Audra Snyder, Matt Burkhart, Melanie Blythe, Debbie, Becky, Jeff, Sheila, Paul, Cathy, Emily, Greg, Amy, and Kelli; numerous great nieces and nephews including Abby, Evan, Anna, Cameron, Lauren, Graham, and Mia; step-grandson, Lucas Montano; step-granddaughter, Isabelle Ernst; and her faithful companion, her dog Bailey.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Judy Mitchel; her brother, John Bercot. and two nieces, Linda and Tina.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday February 23, 2026 at Salem Community Church with Pastor Jim Compton officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Berne, Indiana.
Family and friends will be received from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to Salem Community Church or St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling.
