Elizabeth L. “Betty” O’Shaughnessey, 95, of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away Thursday morning, September 11, 2025, at Adams Heritage in Monroeville.
She was born on November 21, 1929, in New Bavaria, Ohio, to the late Raymond A. and Cora E. (Thome) Peck. On September 17, 1949, Betty was united in marriage to Kenneth O’Shaughnessey in New Bavaria, Ohio. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1994.
A devoted member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville, Betty faithfully served on the Ladies Guild and shared her musical talents as the church organist for more than 40 years. A loving homemaker, she dedicated her life to caring for her family and serving her parish community. Betty also volunteered and taught music at St. Rose Catholic School and gave her time at Adams Heritage nursing home.
Surviving are her children, Paul (Cynthia) O’Shaughnessey of New Haven, Indiana; Karen (David) Schulenburg of Powhatan, Virginia; Patricia (Ron) Castleman of Monroeville, Indiana; Leon (Janilyn) O’Shaughnessey of Monroeville, Indiana; Jane (Gary) Benschneider of Payne, Ohio; Thomas (Marci) O’Shaughnessey of Monroeville, Indiana; Donna (Kirk) Hazelett of Roanoke, Indiana; Joseph (Jeanine) O’Shaughnessey of Monroeville, Indiana; Laura (Matthew) Lancia of Leo, Indiana; and Stephen (Catrina) O’Shaughnessey of Fort Wayne, Indiana. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by a grandson and granddaughter, six brothers, and three sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2025, at St. Rose Catholic Church, Monroeville, with Fr. Dennis DiBenedetto and Bishop Joel Konzen S.M. officiating. Burial will follow in St. Rose Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3–8 p.m. Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, and again from 9:30–10:30 a.m. Monday prior to the service at the funeral home. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Masses and Special Olympics Allen County.
