Donald J. "Butch" Affolder

Donald J. “Butch” Affolder, 74, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at Adams Memorial Hospital.

He was born on May 23, 1952 in Adams County to the late Donald J. and Donna B. (Hurst) Affolder.

Butch was united in marriage to Marcia Alexander on November 9, 1996.

Butch retired from the Adams County Sheriff Department in 2015 after 26 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked part-time for Decatur Parks and Recreation. He was also a volunteer fireman with the Decatur Fire Department.

Butch enjoyed attending gun shows, car shows, and flea markets. He collected knives and watches, and he loved riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. He had a kind and gentle spirit. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia Affolder of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Jami J. (Jason Myers) Affolder of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Amy J. (Michael) Kaeser of Berne, Indiana; son, Adam J. (Jody) Affolder of Decatur, Indiana; son, Bert Ehrmann of Decatur, Indiana; son, Jay (Jade Kelsey) Ehrmann of Fort. Wayne, Indiana; six grandchildren, Josie (Luke) Fox, Corbin Wiegmann, Derek Sommer, Jace Myers, Addison Affolder, and Alysse Affolder; two great-grandchildren, Milo and Layla Fox; and sister, Linda (John) Lose of Decatur, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Glen Geyer.

Private family services will be held.

Preferred memorials may be given to ACCF Angel Fund – Cancer or Riley Children’s Hospital.
