Dianne V. Axt, 66, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 27, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her family after battling cancer for five years.
Dianne was born on September 20, 1959 in Champaign - Urbana, Illinois to Dwayne and Sherrill (Gunder) Dimit. Dianne was united in marriage to Roger Axt on December 20, 1987 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Soest, in Fort Wayne. Dianne was a 1978 graduate of Paul Harding High School. Following her graduation, she enrolled at Ashford University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology.
She was employed by the United States Postal Service for fourteen years in Fort Wayne. She was also a bus driver for East Allen County Schools for ten years. She was also actively involved with the promotion and activity at Baer Field Raceway and Professional Track Services in Allen County.
A master of multitasking, she was a familiar and welcoming fixture in her community, running the concession stand at the Harlan baseball diamonds for over ten years by perfectly filling in the time between her school bus routes. At home, she was the heartbeat of her family, feeling deeply blessed by the ability to keep cherished family traditions alive and always staying actively involved in her grandchildren’s many activities. Dianne lived life to the fullest and filled her time with the things she loved; she enjoyed the thrill of racing, found peace while gardening, and was rarely seen without a camera—always capturing beautiful sunsets and family pictures, which she meticulously preserved in her scrapbooks. When faced with the adversity of cancer, she met the challenge with that same signature determination and sharp intellect; she fiercely tackled the diagnosis by researching and becoming highly knowledgeable about the exact type of cancer and the treatments needed. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her warrior's heart, her devotion to her family, and the joy she brought to everyone around her.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Roger Axt of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son, Ryan (Ashtin) Axt of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Brittani (Andrew) Bodey of Garrett, Indiana; three grandchildren, Everett Body, Oaklyn Axt, and Maryn Axt; brother, Michael (Debra) Dimit of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Angela (Glen) Smith of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and sister-in-law, Brenda Dimit of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bryan Dimit.
A funeral service for Dianne will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Soest with Pastor Josef Henning officiating. Burial will follow at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Soest.
Friends and family will be received from 12 noon to service time at the church on Friday. Following the services and burial, there will be an additional time of gathering at Dianne’s residence for those who would like to join the family to celebrate her life beginning at 4:00 p.m.
