David A. Castleman, age 79, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Cedar Creek Nursing Home in Fort Wayne.
He was born on March 4, 1946, in Allen County, Indiana, to the late Ervin D. “Boob” Castleman and Eileen M. (Oberley) Castleman.
Dave was honorably discharged from the United States Army following his tour of duty during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Fort Wayne, where he faithfully attended until his health prevented him from continuing his attendance. Dave retired as an electrician from Navistar in Indianapolis following a 35-year career.
Dave loved sports of all sorts. He could often be found watching college sports and various football games. He also devoted time to researching genealogy, which he continued throughout his life. Dave was especially attentive to his family, being present in their lives and caring for them as needed. He was especially fond of attending car shows and tractor pulls, often going with his brothers and nephews.
Survivors include his son, Terry Castleman of Fort Wayne; brothers, James (Marilyn) Castleman, Edwin (Edna) Castleman, Joseph (Jane) Castleman, Kenneth (Jean) Castleman, all of Monroeville, Indiana, John Castleman of Bluffton, Indiana and Ronald (Patricia) Castleman of Monroeville, Indiana; and a sister, Carol (Ed) Lubomirski of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Renee Castleman, on April 18, 1981, at the age of 3; and a sister, Mary Ann Castleman, who passed away at birth in 1939.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 31, 2025, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 1105 S. Calhoun Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana with Father Francis Chukwuma officiating. Burial will follow in Covington Memorial Gardens.
Friends and family will be received from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 5:00–7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, 111 South Water Street, Monroeville, Indiana, and also one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Post #43 Color Guard and US Army.
Preferred memorials are to Riley Children’s Hospital or to the donor’s choice.
