B. Joan “Jo Ann” Bixler, of Berne, Indiana, passed away peacefully and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 3rd, 2026, at the age of 100.
Joan was born in Bluffton on October 10, 1925, the only child of Harley and Goldie (Webb) Baumgartner. Joan was married to the love of her life, Melvin Bixler, and they were blessed with 66 years of marriage before his passing in 2012.
She lived a full, rich life and was deeply loved by her family. She was a member of the West Missionary Church, Berne, for nearly 75 years.
She is survived by her seven children: Doug (Janet) Bixler of Decatur, Greg Bixler of Zionsville; Mark (Ann) Bixler of Decatur; Linda (Phil) Liechty of Ohio; Cheryl Terhune of Fort Wayne; Deb (Tom) Walsh of Florida; and Nancy Jo (John) Schindler of Texas; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and special CNA friend, Christy Stevens ("Suzy Belle").
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin; daughters-in-law, Sharon (Bebout) Bixler, and Kristin Bixler; and grand-daughter, Bobby Jo Hinshaw.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana, with Pastor Josh Maller officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Cemetery in Geneva, Indiana.
Family and friends will be received from one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Preferred memorials can be given to the West Missionary Church.
